Kyrö Napue Gin · Isokyrö, Finland

Finnish summer in a bottle

A rye gin that gets its summery taste from freshly distilled birch leaves, meadowsweet, sea buckthorn and cranberries. The world's best gin for a gin & tonic – IWSC 2015 and 2025.

Napue

Have you ever stood barefoot on a misty meadow after a sauna, or run naked through a field of rye? We have. And we bottled that feeling.

The story

from village to world

1714

named after home

The gin takes its name from our distillery's home village, Napue in Isokyrö. The village went down in history as the site of the Battle of Napue in 1714.

the bills had to be paid

2014

the bills had to be paid

Our first whisky spirit had just gone into casks to mature, and maturing whisky takes years. The bills, however, had to be paid right away. So we decided to distil gin – on a rye-based spirit, of course.

a call to Estonia

2015

a call to Estonia

A year after we got our distilling licence, Miika’s phone rang in the middle of a summer holiday in Estonia. “We don’t know anything about you or your distillery, but your gin has been chosen as the best in the Gin & Tonic category.” Napue had won the blind tasting at the International Wine & Spirit Competition. We distilled as much as we could – and sold out within two days of the news going public.

the name came home

Kyrö Gin

the name came home

In 2019 the gin was renamed Kyrö Gin for international markets. Now it is Kyrö Napue Gin again – around the world too.

ten years later

2025

ten years later

The IWSC once again named Napue the world's best gin for a gin & tonic. Officially the best – for ten years now.

How Napue is made

three techniques

Napue is distilled on a 100% rye base. Each botanical is treated the way that suits it best – which is why making the gin takes three different techniques.

  1. Tislaaja lataa kasveja tislauspannuun

    cold maceration

Dried botanicals and spices are steeped cold in the rye spirit, so their aromas are released slowly and gently.

  2. Kyrön kuparinen tislauspannu

    vapour distillation

Delicate spices can't take the boil. Steam rising from the still passes through them and carries their aroma with it.

  3. Koivunlehtiä haudutetaan lasiastiassa

    fractional distillation

Fresh birch leaves, meadowsweet, sea buckthorn and cranberries are each distilled separately. That way the flavours of summer are captured, and the gin tastes the same all year round.

What's in the bottle

summer
botanicals

The rye base gives Napue a peppery, full-bodied backbone. The summer comes from four wild plants that are distilled fresh.

Distilled fresh

  1. Birch leaf

Green and fresh – the scent of a birch grove in early summer.

  2. Meadowsweet

The honeyed, almond-scented flower of the meadows.

  3. Sea buckthorn

    Tart, fruity and sunny.

  4. Cranberry

A tart berry from the bog – and the G&T garnish.

What others say

the world's
best G&T

Amazing aromatics: powerful, exotic, herbal and spicy with some green notes. Spice and juniper work nicely in tandem. This is edgy and powerful with notes of pepper, aniseed and nuts. Remarkable depth of flavour.

Jamie Goode, Wine Anorak, 2015

One thing you can definitely say about Napue Gin is that it really tastes like Finland: natural, herbal, sweet, and almost indescribably forest-like.
